What
type of messages
will I hear?
You will hear
emergency messages broadcast by your local radio station using the new Federal
Communications Commission's Emergency Alert System. FCC regulations require stations to
relay national level EAS broadcast. Additional broadcast, such as State and local
activation's are best explained by the FCC regulations document itself:
"The EAS
may be activated by State or Local area levels by Broadcast stations and cable systems at
their discretion for day-to-day emergencies posing a threat to life and property....

Examples of natural
emergencies which may warrant activation are: tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, earthquakes,
heavy snows, icing conditions, widespread fires, etc. Man-made emergencies may include:
toxic gas leaks or liquid spills, widespread power failures, industrial explosions, and
civil disorders".

like. These sounds are the ones that activate the Emergency Alert Sentinel and allows you
to hear the voice message that follows.
The FCC document
also clearly states that the EAS system WILL NOT be
activated for commercials or public service announcements, but only for real emergency
conditions. Therefore you can be assured that your Emergency Alert Sentinel will be used
to alert you of real emergency conditions.
